The Danish Sailing Association Used an Online Academy to Scale

The Danish Sailing Association is the national configuration for sailing. They strive to make Denmark an attractive place to practice sailing and one of the world’s best sailing nations.

To support the development of sailing in a broader sense, the Danish Sailing Association provides services directly to sailors, member clubs, affiliated school classes, and other organizations. These services cover, among other things, the development of the individual’s skills on the water, access to knowledge and education, as well as training for selected teams and sailors.

With Cursum’s help, the Danish Sailing Association has created an online academy that supports their mission and ever-growing range of services.

For a long time, the Danish Sailing Association had been largely dependent on external course providers. They did not have the means to set up courses and exams for their members themselves, which made their workflow both unnecessarily complicated and inefficient.

In the meantime, the association wanted to find a faster and more efficient solution to start new projects and maintain them.

Their big dream was to create a unified learning universe to gather all their online teaching. A universe where their members independently can sign up for courses and easily access learning when and where it suits them. And at the same time, it was important for the Danish Sailing Association to be able to create learning materials without being dependent on a third party.

Together with Cursum, the Danish Sailing Association has succeeded in taking those courses and teaching lessons that don’t require face-to-face instructions or training at a sailing club or the like, online.

With Cursum’s online academy, the association has created an online learning universe that compliments their offline operations.

The online academy handles everything from creating content to distributing and updating it as well as important data collection.

Morten Jensen, IT employee at the Danish Sailing Association, explains:

Being able to offer our expertise in a digital format means a lot to us. We can now reach far more course participants than before and train more skilled sailors.

Their online academy has helped them systematize their association, and brought on a better utilization of resources and a higher efficiency.

Morten elaborates:

With the online academy from Cursum, we can now create courses and exams for our sailors ourselves. This means we can get started on new projects quickly and efficiently. The students can pay for and register for courses without us having to do anything. It has created a far greater efficiency.

At the same time, the digitization of learning materials ensures increased product quality. In an industry like this, where laws and regulations in general quickly can change, it is easier and faster to update digital material rather than analog materials. A win-win for both the Danish Sailing Association and their members.

Today, the Danish Sailing Association’s online academy poses as a strong supplement to their existing offline activities and in-person service offerings.

The innovative solution has not only benefited their members and given them easier access to necessary knowledge. Their online academy has also increased their performance and efficiency as well as helped them grow their association from the inside out.

The Danish Sailing Association was founded in 1913 and currently consists of 269 sailing clubs with 56.000 members.

The association represents all kind of Danish sailors including dinghies, multihull, windsurfing, kiteboarding and keelboats to cruising yachts and motorboats.
